The pinewood of Petralia Sottana is the most important green area of the town, because of its size, the varieties of plants and the function of protection from hydrological instability, which is the real reason why it was originally planted there.
The secular pinewood conceals fountains, drinking fountains, broad avenues and narrow paths for walking, a kinder garden, a bocce ball court, a refreshment bar called Capanna Verde (Green Hut) with disco opened in summer, a large open air theater that exploits a natural auditorium and a tennis courts.
It is the closest point to the town where is possible to stop for a picnic, do jogging or spend a night in a tent.
